  Introduction:

  Litsea cubeba is a small evergreen tropical tree, 5 - 12 m high with a stem diameter of 6 - 20 cm. The small fruits that emit a lemony odour when crushed, resemble cubeb pepper, hence the species name. 

  History:

  The roots and stem have been used for centuries by the Chinese to treat indigestion, lower back pains, chills, headaches and travel sickness. It wasn't until the 1950's that the EO was first distilled from the pepperlike fruits and began to compete in popularity with lemongrass oil. The litsea EO is finer, more lemon-like than lemongrass one.
