- Details and product descriptionIntroduction:
As all Cymbopogons, Java citronella is an herb 1.5 m high that has long, narrow and pointed leaves, with a central line and sharp edges. The leaves have a fresh lemon fragrance. The upper part of the stems is reminiscent of a rush and the base, which is very tender, is used in cooking. Flowers are small, but numerous and clumped in spiked pyramids. The fruit is a drupe divided into 2 parts when it is ripe, each one of them containing a seed without albumen.
History:Cymbopogons arrived in Europe in the Middle Ages, shipped from Bombay to ports of the Red Sea and transported partly by land, from Constantinople to Europe, via Bulgaria. The industry of Java citronnella started in 1890.
