- Details and product descriptionIntroduction:
Cypriol is a large and beautiful perennial with strong, vertical triangular stems. Its leaves are evergreen, long, narrow and the foliage is bushy. Its delicate inflorescence sits on top of a strong triangular cane, and gives this plant a fine texture. The umbel can extend up to 60 cm in diameter, and the plant can reach a height of 1.8 to 2.4 m with an equal span, especially when it grows in stagnant water. The plant produces dark brown tubers with a very aromatic fragrance.
History:Cypriol essential oil was already known for many decades in its country of origin where roots were used like those of vetiver to perfume saris or other women’s clothing. Since ancient times (4000 BC), Cypriol of the papyrus genus (Cyperus papyrus) was cultivated and used in Egypt and neighboring countries. The stem marrow was cut into strips, which were then pressed together crosswise to make papyrus sheets intended for writing. Egyptians also ate the rhizomes, used them for medicinal purposes and wove the fibers to make sails. The plant is now rarely cultivated.
